CVC report a secret document: Fernandes

Defence Minister George Fernandes on Thursday justified his ministry's decision not to hand over the Central Vigilance Commission report on post 1989 defence deals to Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, saying it was a secret document and could not be shown to the panel.

"The CVC report is a secret and (Lok Sabha) Speaker (G M C Balayogi) has held that. So it could not be handed over to the committee," he said.

He said the speaker had also disallowed certain queries over the report.

The denial of the ministry to hand over the report to the committee had generated a controversy, with the Congress and the Left parties criticising the move.
