Swami rubbishes allegations against Advani

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Minister of State for Home Affairs I D Swami ridiculed the Pakistani newspaper The News for running a story in which the Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani was accused of being one of the co-conspirators in the plot to kill the founder of Pakistan, Mohammed Ali Jinnah.

Talking to rediff.com on Wednesday evening, Swami said that it is below his dignity to take notice of such rubbish.

"I would ask the Indian media not to take notice of such stuff," Swami said.

Indian intelligence agency officials also said that the allegations 'smack of hatred'.

"Till date we had heard nothing about Advani being involved in the conspiracy to murder Jinnah. When Advani went to Pakistan a few years back, nobody said a word about it (conspiracy). If the case exists against Advani now, it must have existed years back as well when he went all over Pakistan and when the Pakistani authorities were only too happy to receive him," a senior intelligence bureau official told rediff.com.

The sources also ridiculed the Pakistani authorities for the manner in which they are trying to equate Advani with the likes of Dawood Ibrahim.
