Islamabad has accused India's Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani of having been involved in a conspiracy to assassinate Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Pakistan's founder and first governor general, The News, a leading Pakistani daily, reported on Wednesday.
The list of criminals that Pakistan is handing over to India includes Advani's name, the report claimed.
The report said the case was based on a first information report (No 4/47) registered on September 10, 1947, by Tooti Ram, then station house officer of the Jamshed Quarters police station.
The FIR accused 18 persons of being involved in the conspiracy to assassinate Jinnah, then prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan and senior leader Khwaja Nazimuddin.
The police could, however, arrest only six of the alleged conspirators. The remaining 12, including Advani, absconded.
The arrested men -- Khem Chand, son of Gopal Das; Nand Ram, s/o Gobind Ram; Gobind, s/o Lal Singh; Hargobind, s/o Ghando Mal; Santo, s/o Ghando Mal; Tayken Das, s/o Jairam -- were tried in court and convicted. The case against the 12 absconders became dormant.
Later, an agreement was reached between India and Pakistan under which the six convicts too were extradited to India on September 19, 1948.
