The two Pakistani terrorists, involved in the attack on the United States Information Service office on January 22 and killed in an encounter with police on Monday, belonged to Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Tayiba, a top police official said on Tuesday.
Soumen Mitra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kolkata said that this was proved by the dying declaration of one of the slain terrorists, Zahid.
Mitra, who is heading the special investigating team, said the declaration of Zahid also tallied with the statement recorded by Kolkata police from the witnesses to the strike.
The identification mark of Zahid also tallied with the information possessed by Kolkata Police, he said.
Asked whether the death of the two terrorists would hamper the investigation into the attack on the USIS office, Mitra said the dying declaration of Zahid would help them considerably.
He said although the identity of Zahid's companion Salim was not exactly established, it was confirmed that he was part of the terrorist organisation.
Mitra said the link of slain terrorists with Nalanda-based criminals has also been established and added that without the local contact the outsiders could not have stayed in Bihar.
He said the recovery of the Howrah-Gaya railway ticket dated January 23, a day after the attack on USIS office, also confirmed their involvement in the Kolkata incident.
