International community to be apprised of Pak activities: India

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

India will apprise the international community about Pakistani nationals continuing espionage and subversive activities on Indian soil, Union Home Secretary Kamal Pande on Monday said.

Addressing a press conference in which divulged the details of Pakistani nationals Zahid and Salim owning responsibility for the recent Kolkata (terrorist) incident before being fatally shot on Monday morning at their hideout in Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, Pande said, "We are hoping that some more leads may come up."

He said that increase in ISI-backed terrorist activities by Pakistan is a 'cause of concern for us'.

He, however, reiterated the government's resolve to root out terrorism and continue the battle against the Pakistan-inspired terrorists.

He pointed out that after Farhan Malik alias Aftab Ansari of the Harkat ul Jihad Islami claimed responsibility for the Kolkata incident, Zahid and Salim, both Pakistani nationals, confessed their involvement in it before dying of gunshot wounds.

Earlier, he contended, the Rajasthan police have apprehended another Pakistani national Zeeshan Alam on December 17.

"This is bringing out a clear trend that Pakistani nationals continue to indulge in sabotage and subversive activities on Indian soil. It has to be brought to the notice of the international community," he said.

Additional Director General of Police (Jharkhand) Rajeev Ranjan Prasad told rediff.com: "We have solid reasons to believe that many Pakistani nationals have spread out in the Hazaribagh district. We are keeping a watch and are confident of nabbing the associates of these two (Zahid and Salim)."

He contended that Ranchi (the capital of Jharkhand) has also turned out to be a breeding ground for anti-social and anti-national elements.

According to Pande, Zahid admitted that he was a resident of Khanewala, district Multan in Pakistan and he had opened fire at the United States Information Service office in Kolkata.

The Jharkhand police have recovered an AK 47 rifle believed to have been used in the incident in Kolkata, he said.
