2 killed in train mishap in Assam

Two persons were killed when a goods train collided with the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjanga Express at Kamakhaya station near Guwahati on Monday night, a railway spokesperson said.

Two unidentified bodies were recovered from under the train, suspected to be trespassers and not passengers, he said.

Two parcel vans of the Kanchanjanga Express derailed after the collision.

The express train, which left Guwahati station around 1030 pm, was waiting at Kamakhaya station when the goods train from Dhubri side on the Jogigopa line collided head-on with it around 1100 pm.

Senior railway and police officials have rushed to the spot.
