The Bihar government has tightened the security cover for a United States-headquartered Buddhist monastery at Bodh Gaya following intelligence reports warning of a possible attack by Maoists.
The government has also directed the Bodh Gaya administration to provide adequate security to all the foreign Buddhist monasteries in the district.
"In the wake of the attack (on the American centre) in Kolkata, the state government has ordered for special security arrangements at the Root Institute," a senior police official said on Friday.
According to the officials, a large number of policemen have been deployed around the Root Institute.
The institute is affiliated to the Mahayana sect of Buddhism and it's headquarter is in California. Most of the foreigner spiritual practitioners prefer to live in the premises of the institute. The American followers of the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader, are also associated with monastery.
Sources said that the institute's security was tightened in view of the threat from terrorist groups.
Official of the institute told rediff.com that police forces had been deployed since Thursday and there was nothing to worry about.
Bodh Gaya is the place where Buddha attained enlightenment some 2,500 years ago.
