Among others, Advani met Secretary of State Colin Powell, who later left for the subcontinent in an effort to ease the tensions on the border and appeal for de-escalation of the troops buildup by both India and Pakistan. But Powell's assurance that President Musharraf was sincere in his efforts to stem terrorism cut no ice with the home minister.
