Govindacharya still with RSS, clarifies Vaidya

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Wednesday clarified that it has not dropped K N Govindacharya as a Pracharak from the organisation.

On Tuesday, RSS spokesman M G Vaidya had told newsmen in New Delhi that Govindacharya was no longer a Pracharak with the RSS.

A written clarification issued by Vaidya said that news reports that had appeared in various national dailies regarding Govindacharya were 'misconceived'.

"Reports that have appeared in the media on Wednesday about Sri Govindacharya attributing to the RSS in general and me as the spokesman in particular are distorted and slanted. I had only said on Tuesday that he is not a Pracharak at present. This did not mean that he is expelled from RSS as was tried to be conveyed by some reports," Vaidya said.

He lavished high praise on Govindacharya and described him as one of the most outstanding Swayamsevak and Karyakarta.

"He has rendered yeoman service to the Hindu cause through several parivar organisations, including the BJP. He had served as a Pracharak for almost 25 years and rendered selfless and dedicated service to the nation," he said.

He further explained that Govindacharya had himself asked to be relieved from the duties of Pracharak as he wanted to meditate and study for a period of six months.

"His proposal was discussed by the RSS leadership and was finally approved. It may be pertinent to note that the proposal was from Sri Govindacharya himself and he is aware of the consent given by the RSS leadership too. Many Pracharaks after serving for a few years as full time workers retire from Pracharakhood. But they don't cease to be our Karyakartas, much less our Swayamsevaks. It is expected that Sri Govindacharya will resume his service to the Motherland as before," he said.
