Former cops appointed Tamil Nadu, Nagaland governors

Two retired Indian Police Service officers, P S Ramamohan Rao and Shyamal Dutta, were on Tuesday appointed governors of Tamil Nadu and Nagaland, according to an official communique.

Rao, former director general of Andhra Pradesh police, has been sent to Tamil Nadu, where state governor C Rangarajan was holding additional charge ever since Fathima Beevi resigned in the wake of a controversy over the swearing-in of Jayalalithaa as the chief minister.

Dutta, who recently retired as director of the Intelligence Bureau, will succeed Om Prakash Sharma.

Dutta had earlier headed the elite Special Protection Group.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said these appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.
