Two DD 'Kashir' channel officials among three nabbed by CBI

Amidst reports of rampant corruption in Doordarshan's 'Kashir' channel, targeted at people residing in Jammu and Kashmir, the CBI on Saturday arrested two officials and a tout for allegedly entering into a criminal conspiracy and accepting bribes to clear programmes.

According to the CBI, the anti-corruption unit of the agency worked on a preliminary information about corrupt practices in the department leading to the arrests.

During the course of investigation, CBI arrested one person D K Chakraborty, who was acting as a conduit for the officials in the department for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 100,000 from a person near a hotel in the capital.

During interrogation, Chakraborty revealed some more names following which CBI teams swooped on four premises in the capital and arrested two officials.

The officials arrested were Controller of Programmes T K Das and Assistant Controller of Programme M A Baig.

DD launched the 'Kashir' channel to counter the influence of Pakistan Television in J&K, especially the Kashmir valley, and highlight the achievements of the government.
