CBI files 36 cases after drive to unearth black money

In the first ever drive of its kind, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday registered 36 cases against 112 government officials and others, after search operations across the country unearthed millions of rupees of black money.

CBI sources said that the searches had been planned and executed only after prima facie evidence that the officials had entered into criminal conspiracy and indulged in corrupt practices.

They said that nearly 500 sleuths of various wings of the CBI were involved in the searches, which started from Friday morning.

The sources added that the house of an Income Tax Commissioner posted in Uttar Pradesh was also searched.
