Bihar government to hand over DFO killing probe to CBI

A M Sahay in Patna

The Bihar government has decided to hand over the investigation into the killing of Divisional Forest Officer Sanjay Singh on Friday afternoon in Rohtas district to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Making this announcement on Monday, Bihar Forest and Environment Minister Jagdanand Singh also said that Chief Minister Rabri Devi is yet to formally clear the file.

Though the banned Maoist Communist Centre is the main suspect, Jagdanand Singh did not rule out the possibility of the involvement of the stone crusher mafia in the killing.

Singh had earlier blamed the Rohtas district police for its failure to provide adequate security to the slain DFO despite warnings of a threat to his life.

According to the minister, the state home department had, in a confidential report in January, asked the Rohtas district administration to provide adequate security to Sanjay Singh.

However, state DGP R R Prasad, who was also present during the crowded press conference, maintained that the police had provided adequate security to the slain DFO.

The slain DFO's wife Annu Singh has refused Chief Minister Rabri Devi's offer of Rs 500,000 as compensation and a government job for her.
