Special Judge Premkumar in Coimbatore on Monday handed down death sentence to four of the nine accused in the Constable Selvaraj murder case.

The murder had led to violence in the Cotton City and subsequently the Coimbatore serial blasts, which claimed 60 lives.

The judge, who on Friday had found all nine guilty -- one of them died during the pendency of the case -- awarded death sentence to Mohammed Safi, Aasik, Abuthahir and Abbas.

He also gave life terms to the other four -- Siddique Ali, Aslam, Samsudeen and Mohammed Ansari.

They were also given lesser terms on other counts.
