Pakistan reopens arrest warrants against Bhutto

The warrants had been issue by a judge in the accountability court last year, and were reopened by the National Accountability Bureau, who sent them to the police in all four provinces and the capital, the Karachi-based daily Dawn reported on Wednesday.

The accountability court had declared Bhutto an absconder and passed a three-year sentence on her for not responding to its summons. The NAB authorities had sealed the warrants after Bhutto left the country on self-exile.

But recent intelligence reports have suggested that she might return, prompting them to reopen these warrants.

The superintendent of police in Clifton, Karachi, where the former premier's residence is located, has also been directed to take her into custody if she comes to her house.

The authorities are also seeking Interpol assistance to arrest her while she is still abroad.

Bhutto, who shuttles between Dubai and London, filed her nomination papers on August 22 to contest two seats of the National Assembly from her hometown Larkana in Sindh.
