T N Chaturvedi sworn in as Karnataka governor

Former Bharatiya Janata Party parliamentarian and seasoned administrator Triloki Nath Chaturvedi was sworn in as the fourteenth governor of Karnataka on Wednesday.

In a brief ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Bangalore, Chief Justice N K Jain of the Karnataka high court administered the oath of office and secrecy in Hindi to Chaturvedi, who succeeds V S Ramadevi. Her term expired on July 25.

The former comptroller and auditor general told reporters that he did not visualise "any special kind of role" for himself, but more of a "facilitating role".

He said the governor's role was clearly defined in the Constitution and there was no need for any misgivings.

He said he has known Chief Minister S M Krishna from his [Chaturvedi's] earlier stints as a Union minister and a member of the Rajya Sabha and the latter had welcomed his appointment.
