Court stays telecast of Ramkhelavan
CM 'n' Family

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

A Patna court on Monday stayed till August 27 the telecast of Ramkhelavan CM 'n' Family -- a sitcom that allegedly takes potshots at Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and her husband Laloo Prasad Yadav.

The sitcom was being aired on SABe TV.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Santosh Kumar Srivastava ordered the stay following the failure of the defendants to reply to a show cause notice issued to them on August 13 returnable by August 17.

The defendants' counsel had on August 17 sought time for their clients to file a reply to the notice, which asked for an explanation from them as to why a stay should not be granted on the telecast of the serial.

Taking a serious note of the failure of the defendants to file their replies, the court observed that prima facie the serial appeared derogatory. It said it would decide on ordering a permanent stay after hearing the replies from the defendants.

The order followed a petition by one Radha Raman Pradhan, who made Chairman of SABe TV Gautam Adhikari and seven others defendants in the case.
