Election Commission's 3-day J&K visit from Sunday

The full Election Commission will be making a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir starting Sunday for a review of arrangements for the four-phased assembly poll, which would be held on September 16, 24, October one and eight.

The visit follows the spot visit to the riot-hit Gujarat last week, after which the EC decided against holding an early poll in the state.

Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh and the other two Election Commissioners -- T S Krishnamurthy and B B Tandon -- along with Deputy Election Commissioner Sayan Chatterjee would visit Srinagar and Jammu.

They would also interact with the chief secretary, senior civil and police officials and representatives of the political parties during their stay, EC sources said.

Announcing the poll schedule early this month, Lyngdoh had said, "It will be a good and credible election and the Commission has taken it more seriously than any other elections in the past."
