Bail hearing of Gen Aurora adjourned
in Patna

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The anticipatory bail hearing of Lieutenant General (retd) Jagjit Singh Aurora, hero of the 1971 war with Pakistan, in a Patna court was adjourned on Wednesday due to a boycott of the court by lawyers to protest against extortion demands of criminals.

"The next date for hearing the anticipatory bail of Lt Gen Aurora was fixed on August 23," advocate Mohammed Akram said.

The general had filed the petition after a judicial magistrate in Patna had issued a non-bailable warrant against him on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of property.

Mohar Lal Majhi, an undersecretary in Jharkhand's Department of Mines, had filed the criminal complaint against the general and seven others in February 2001.
