A police constable was on Tuesday evening shot dead by Naxalites belonging to the People's War group at Mannanur village in Mahboobnagar district in Andhra Pradesh.
Constable Pandari (30) was about to board a lorry going towards Amrabad when the assailants fired six rounds killing him on the spot, police said.
The constable, attached to Amrabad police station, had gone to the village on official work.
He leaves behind wife, a daughter and an infant son.
Talks between the state government and People's War group broke down in July after the latter accused the government of continuing to target its cadres.
Following this, the state government extended the ban on the outfit.
