Though the flood situation in Bihar remains grim, the spectre of drought in a large part of the state has receded to some extent with rains lashing the state capital and several other districts in the last four days.
Patna city alone has recorded 259.8 mm rainfall. Large parts of western and eastern Bihar have also received heavy rainfall.
According to the meteorology office in Patna, it was an upper-air circulation over north-east Madhya Pradesh and its adjoining areas of UP and Bihar that caused the rainfall.
Director, Meteorology Department, R K Mukhopadhya, said though the monsoon had set in Bihar on June 12, its concentration was weak, resulting in scanty rainfall in June and July. "If all goes well in the remaining two months of monsoon -- August and September -- Bihar will certainly receive around 1,000 mm of rainfall," he added.
