Monsoon shows signs of revival

The monsoon is building up over the Bay of Bengal and this may compensate for some of the rain deficiency in the country, the meteorological department said on Tuesday.

"Clouding is seen over west-central Bay and adjoining northwest Bay, which is a positive sign for monsoon revival," Indian Meteorological Department director H R Hatwar said.

Lowering of the temperature in Delhi and adjoining areas is likely to continue in the next couple of days with scattered rainfall in the region, he said.

Till the end of July, the country had recorded 30 per cent deficiency in monsoon activity. The rainfall recorded this week is better than that recorded last month, Hatwar said.

He said the monsoon had been on a revival track since July 31, largely due to the shifting of the monsoon trough from the Himalayan foothills southwards. The trough now lies in a near 'normal position' in Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and northwest Bay of Bengal.

In the next couple of days, good rainfall is expected in central India, including Orissa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, and along the West Coast, while Delhi and the adjoining areas such as Punjab, Haryana and parts of Rajasthan are likely to get scattered rainfall, he said.
