Attack on pilgrims meant to foil
solution to Kashmir problem: US

The United States on Tuesday said the terrorist attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir was aimed at thwarting efforts for a political solution of the Kashmir problem.

State Department officials said that "such attacks are clearly aimed at escalating tensions in the region and preventing movement towards a political resolution of the Kashmir conflict."

In London, a spokesman of Commonwealth and British foreign office said the "horrific" attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir and on a Christian school at Muree in Pakistan called for sustained and effective action against terrorism.
