No case against person held for bid on Paramhans's life

The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a closure report in the case of an attack on Ram Janambhoomi Trust president Mahant Ram Chandra Paramhans Das at Faizabad in May 2000 saying that no case was made out against the arrested person.

The Mahant was injured when a bomb exploded outside the Faizabad district hospital, while he was on a morning stroll on May 15, 2000.

The case was later handed over to the CBI after probe by the Uttar Pradesh police, which had arrested Tanveer, a resident of Faizabad and an alleged Students Islamic Movement of India activist, from Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

The closure report, filed in the designated court, said that there was no evidence to link Tanveer with the bomb explosion outside the hospital as claimed by the state police.

The CBI rejected the claim of the UP police that RDX had been used in the carrying out the blast.

The CBI had also said that the Mahant had also not come forward for a test identification parade of Tanveer as required by the law.

Meanwhile, commenting on the CBI report, the Mahant told PTI over phone from Ayodhya that he had identified the accused from his photograph, which is not valid before the court.

The Mahant said he did not wish to challenge the CBI report in this regard as he was a saint and did not 'consider anyone as his enemy'.
