Two ULFA militants killed in encounter

Two hardcore militants from the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom were killed in an encounter with the army in lower Assam's Darrang district on Friday, according to police sources.

Acting on a tip, troops of the Red Horns division operating in the district searched the areas near the Umananda village falling within the Khoirabari police station's jurisdiction.

The two extremists were seen moving in a suspicious manner along the railway tracks. When challenged, they threw a grenade at the jawans and attempted to flee, but were killed on the spot in the retaliatory fire.

A .38 revolver, an explosive device weighing 6kg and a Chinese grenade were recovered from them.
