All-party meet on Friday to discuss
George's boycott by opposition

Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi has convened an all-party meeting on Friday to resolve the deadlock over the opposition's continued boycott of Defence Minister George Fernandes in Parliament.

With the Business Advisory Committee of Lok Sabha scheduling a discussion on national security for Thursday, the government wants the Fernandes issue resolved as soon as possible.

The opposition, however, does not appear to be in a relenting mood.

The government, meanwhile, has agreed to an independent debate on the bifurcation of the Eastern Railway zone, over which Trinamool Congress is threatening to break away from the ruling National Democratic Alliance.

A discussion on the government's foreign policy will be taken up in the last week of the session.
