Sunil Dutt stands by his son

Congress MP Sunil Dutt on Thursday defended his actor son Sanjay, two days after taped conversations between the latter and gangster Chhota Shakeel were made public.

Sunil Dutt, however, said he had "great admiration" for and "full faith" in the judiciary and would accept "with dignity" whatever it decided.

"I feel he is innocent," the one-time film star told STAR News. "If he were not innocent, I would not stand by him."

He said Sanjay could "make mistakes, but he cannot harm any individual or the country".

"I know what he has gone through and what his attitude is towards his friends and family," he said, adding that anyone who knew Sanjay would "love him".

He, however, refused to comment on the tapes, saying the law of the land must prevail.

He said he had "many things to say", but would not speak out at the moment "as it will be taken otherwise".

On his mission launched to fight communalism, he said he would go ahead undeterred.
