PPSC scandal: Two associates
of Sidhu arrested

Two close associates of arrested Punjab Public Service Commission chairman Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu were arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau late on Sunday night, a senior Vigilance Bureau official said adding that one of them had disclosed the names of at least five more 'touts'.

They were identified as Ludhiana-based Markfed employee Randhir Singh Gill alias Dhira and Prem Sagar, owner of a petrol pump in Moga.

While Additional Director General of Police A P Pandey, who is heading investigations into the job-for-cash scam, was not available for comment, sources in the bureau said Gill and Sagar have confessed that they used to collect money on Sidhu's behalf.

Sidhu was arrested on March 25 while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 500,000 from a job aspirant.

The arrests have taken the number of those nabbed to six, including Sidhu, Pandey said. Two more suspects - Shamshir Singh, a veterinarian based at Panchkula (Haryana) and G S Manchanda, an alleged hawala operator - are still at large, he added.

He said that the police had launched a manhunt for five persons named by Dhira.
