WB minister surrenders in court, CM
rejects demand for his sacking

West Bengal's Minister of State for Transport Narayan Biswas on Friday surrendered before a court in Dakshin Dinajpur district in connection with a case of attempted murder, but Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya ruled out his removal from the Left Front government.

Bhattacharjee said a mere complaint does not prove guilt.

"It is a 15-year-old case which Narayan Biswas does not even remember," CPI (M) state secretary Anil Biswas said.

Transport Minister Subhas Chakraborty said his deputy's surrender in court would not tarnish the Left Front government's image.
