Court acquits former AIADMK minister in corruption case

Former AIADMK minister K A Sengottaiyan and three others were acquitted by a special court in the Rs 15.8 million (Rs 1.58 crore) JJ Transport Corporation scam.

Delivering the judgement, Special Judge P Anbzhagan said the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond all reasonable doubt.

Besides Sengottaiyan, others acquitted are the managing director of the corporation T Sethuraman, Sengottaiyan's former personal assistant Ezhil and M R Natarajan, an agent.

The case pertains to alleged violation of norms and procedures in bus body building and in purchase of materials, resulting in a loss of Rs 15.8 million to the corporation during 1991-96 when Sengottaiyan was the transport minister in the then Jayalalithaa government.
