Police intercepted Geelani at Pattan while he was on his way to Bandipora town of Baramulla to address a Friday congregation, the sources said.
Although the police did not divulge the reason behind Geelani's preventive arrest, the sources said the step was taken to stop him from addressing the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid Bandipora and holding demonstrations in the town in violation of prohibitory orders.
