Centre clears AP MLAs's foreign tour

The Centre has cleared the Andhra Pradesh government's proposal of sending all the state MLAs on a 'study tour' of east and southeast Asian countries beginning next month.

Five batches of around 60 legislators each will visit China, Malaysia, Singapore and Korea.

The first batch will leave on May 4, party sources said.

The clearance of the proposal comes ahead of a crucial vote in the Lok Sabha on an opposition censure motion on Gujarat.

The Telugu Desam Party is yet to say if it will vote for the government.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu's proposal to expose the MLAs to the economies of these countries had raised eyebrows at the Centre.

TDP parliamentary party leader K Yerran Naidu met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in a bid to persuade him to clear the proposal.

Meanwhile, the TDP parliamentary party is meeting in Hyderabad on April 28 to discuss its strategy on voting when the censure motion on Gujarat is taken up on April 30.
