MCI member and ex-president of the Indian Medical Association (Bihar Chapter), Dr Ajay Kumar, said in Patna that as per the new code of ethics, government doctors posted in rural areas will be de-registered if district authorities or zila parishad chairmen find them absent during surprise inspections.
Similar restrictions will be in force for doctors posted in government medical colleges and hospitals, Kumar said.
The code of conduct was notified through a gazette on April 6.
He said during the course of inspection by the principal or medical superintendent of government medical colleges and hospitals, doctors found violating the set norms, would have their registration cancelled and barred from examining patients.
The notification has also made it mandatory for fresh medical graduates to take an oath to follow the modified code of conduct and show respect to human life.
They would be required to sign an eleven-point declaration based on this new code of conduct, Kumar said.
