Complainant happy with Punjabi University V-C's sacking

The student, whose rape charge was cited among the reasons for the sacking of the vice-chancellor of the Punjabi University, on Tuesday said she was 'really happy' over the Punjab government's decision to remove Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia from his post.

"I am really happy," Saru Rana of the Patiala-based university told a television channel. Rana had filed a police complaint accusing Ahluwalia of attempting to rape and outrage her modesty.

Regretting that a person occupying the position of a vice-chancellor was 'misusing his position', she gave full credit to the Punjab government and expressed confidence that action would be taken against Ahluwalia as per the law.

Ahluwalia was sacked on Monday with immediate effect in an attempt to 'prevent further deterioration of the atmosphere in the Punjabi University'.
