Sayeed's ruling unfortunate: PM

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Tuesday termed as "unfortunate" Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker P M Sayeed's ruling admitting the opposition-sponsored censure motion on Gujarat.

The Prime Minister's Office, however, said that Vajpayee had only described as unfortunate the wording of the motion.

"We have to accept it," Vajpayee said.

About criticism that minorities were in danger in India, Vajpayee said: "Minorities enjoy equal rights and are getting full protection."

Asked if the National Democratic Alliance was hopeful of weathering the motion in the Lok Sabha, the prime minister replied: "Even our opponents who have moved the motion know what fate it will meet."

On whether such a motion would have been admitted if the ruling NDA had its own nominee as the speaker, Vajpayee said: "This speaker is also ours."
