Trinamool not to vote against govt

The Trinamool Congress and Pattali Makkal Katchi -- allies of the National Democratic Alliance -- said on Tuesday that they would not vote against the government on the censure motion on the Gujarat issue in the Lok Sabha.

However, the Telugu Desam Party -- another crucial ally of the NDA -- kept its cards close to the chest.

Trinamool MPs Krishna Bose and Nitish Sengupta said their party had no intention of "destabilising" the government even though there was no change in its demand for the removal of Narendra Modi as Gujarat chief minister.

PMK founder Dr S Ramdoss said in Chennai that the party would continue to support the NDA.

The PMK, he said, was not demanding Modi's resignation, but wanted the chief minister to resign voluntarily.

TDP parliamentary leader K Yerran Naidu said there were various options before the party, but a final decision would be taken by the party's politburo.

The Congress said voting on motion was a "moral issue" and not a "game of numbers".

Party leader Priyaranjan Dasmunshi said that the Trinamool and TDP should reflect their disenchantment on the Modi issue by voting against the government.
