The Tamil Nadu assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution urging the Centre to seek extradition of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam chief Vellupillai Prabhakaran to India.
The Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India, Marxist, staged a walkout, while the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam stayed neutral.
The 19-member Pattali Makkal Kachchi voted against the motion, which also asked the Centre not to allow any LTTE leader to enter the country.
In a strongly-worded reference, the motion urged the Centre to despatch the Indian Army to capture Prabhakaran and bringing him to Tamil Nadu to face trial in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, if the Sri Lankan government could not extradite him.
Even as the PMK members were shouting that the resolution would hinder the Norwegian-facilitated peace talks in Sri Lanka, Speaker K Kalimuthu announced the motion passed.
The Congress, the Tamil Maanila Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party extended support to the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the passage.
On Monday, the Pondicherry assembly passed a unanimous resolution on similar lines.
