The United States has said that Islamabad is fully cooperating with Washington in the war against terrorism.
"They (Pakistan) have been wonderfully helpful and cooperative from the outset of this global war on terrorism. They have been, they are today and I have every reason to believe they will be prospectively," US Defence Secretary Donald H Rumsfeld told reporters on Monday.
Rumsfeld said he has indicated from the outset that he prefers to allow other countries to characterise the ways in which they are assisting the US in the global war on terrorism.
"And you, Sir, have just settled on exactly one of those instances," he said, when asked whether US had sought permission from Pakistan to raid Al Qaeda and Taliban hideouts in Pakistan.
"If I wanted to answer that portion of your question, I probably would have, and I didn't," he added.
"The US is getting wonderful assistance from a list of countries around the world. They have different perspectives, different laws, different political circumstances, different neighbours, different views of threats, and the US wants the maximum help it can get as a country to stop terrorism and to root out the terrorists and to stop the sanctuaries that exist," Rumsfeld said.
