Orissa has stopped power supply to the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh from Monday midnight to meets its domestic demand, principal secretary of the state energy department D N Padhi said on Tuesday.
The Grid Corporation Limited, the sole licensee for bulk supply of power in Orissa, was supplying 150 megawatt of power to Andhra Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation since last six or seven year, Padhi told rediff.com.
Power purchase agreement between GRIDCO and APTRANSCO expired on March 31.
"Besides, the APTRANSCO was also defaulting payments," he said.
"In spite of that GRIDCO supplied power for more fifteen days till April 15 following a request from APTRANSCO," he said.
Orissa has an average requirement of 1653 mw. The present availability is 1,110 mw resulting in a shortfall of 543 mw.
However, the peak demand of the state is about 2,100 mw and shortfall during peak load is about 1,000 mw, he said.
