12 MCC ultras escape from Ranchi jail

Twelve undertrial prisoners, including the 'zonal commander' and an 'area commander' of the banned extremist outfit, the Maoist Communist Centre, escaped from a court lockup on Tuesday, official sources said in Ranchi.

Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Sukdev Singh said the prisoners broke open the backdoor of a toilet in the yard behind the district and sessions court's lockup and fled.

The prisoners were lodged at the Birsa Munda central jail and had been brought to the court on Tuesday morning for appearance in connection with several cases, Singh said.
