Journalist murdered in Lucknow

Sharat Pradhan in Lucknow

A crime reporter with the local Hindi daily Janasatta, Paritosh Pandey, was murdered in his house late on Sunday night.

Pandey had just entered his house around 10.30 pm, when some unknown assailants sprayed him with bullets.

While his neighbours heard five shots, the police have recovered two empty cartridges.

Lucknow's Senior Superintendent of Police B B Bakshi said, "The assailants pumped two bullets into Pandey's chest from point-blank range."

The motive behind the murder continues to remain a mystery.

Separated from his wife, Pandey was living alone.

On hearing gunshots, Pandey's neighbours rushed to his house to find him lying in a pool of blood.

One of the neighbours promptly informed the police.

Pandey's journalist colleagues suspect the hand of some criminal gangs whom Pandey had exposed in the past.

They claimed that Pandey had also been under threat for sometime, but he declined to seek any police protection.

Thirty-three-year old Pandey had earlier worked with Amar Ujala, before he joined Janasatta, which was launched from Lucknow about 10 months back.
