Nepalese forces kill 17 Maoist rebels

Nepalese security forces on Sunday night killed 17 Maoist rebels, reports said.

The rebels were gunned down in a bus near Murkutti, on the border of Dang district, state-run Nepal Radio said on Monday.

A fire fight broke out when police stopped the bus at a security checkpoint, it said.

The police had accused the rebels of attacking four towns in western Nepal on Thursday night, triggering a gun battle that lasted through early Friday.

At least 50 policemen and 150 rebels were killed in last week's fighting in Dang district.
