An Air China airplane carrying 166 people crashed into a mountain as it was landing in Kimhae in South Korea on Monday.
Fifty-four people survived, police said.
The Boeing 767-200 was approaching Kimhae Airport in Busan when it hit the mountainside near a residential area.
Attempts to use helicopters to rescue survivors were hampered by rain.
Kimhae Airport is used for both civilian and military planes and air force personnel staff the control tower.
The plane's flight recorder has been recovered.
