Bihar police put on alert along Indo-Nepal border

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

In the wake of fresh massacres in Nepal by the Maoists, the Bihar police are on high alert and keeping a close watch over the 735-km long Indo-Nepal border, a senior police official told rediff.com on Sunday.

He said that superintendents of police of border districts in Bihar have been directed to strengthen security.

There are half a dozen districts in Bihar along the Indo Nepal border, which are regarded as soft target for the Nepal's Maoist guerrillas.

The state Director General of Police R R Prasad said that the police was asked to be on alert in view of fresh killings in Nepal.

Last week at a meet held in Patna by the top brass of nine Naxalite-affected states, Union Home secretary Kamal Pande had expressed concern over growing ties between the Communist Party of Nepal, Maoist, and the banned Indian outfits like the Maoist Communist Centre and the People's War Group.

Central intelligence agencies have also confirmed that many Nepalese Maoists are being trained to handle arms and explosives in Gaya and Aurangabad districts in central Bihar, where the MCC is strong.
