Defence Minister George Fernandes arrived in Moscow on Wednesday on a four-day visit to Russia.
Fernandes will hold talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Ivanov to finalise several defence deals, including the acquisition of Kiev-class aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov, defence sources said.
The minister is heading a nine-member delegation, which includes Additional Defence Secretary Ajay Prasad, Additional Defence Production Secretary Dhirendra Singh, deputy chief of naval staff Vice Admiral S V Gopalachari and assistant chief of air staff Air Vice Marshal P K Desai.
The two sides will also hold delegation level talks to expedite the supply of T-90 battle tanks, upgraded SU-30 fighters and other equipment, the sources said.
Fernandes will also meet Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov and Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov.
He is expected to call on President Vladimir Putin to deliver Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's message and discuss preparations for the upcoming Indo-Russian summit in New Delhi later this year.
