Bihar police in search of minister in assault case

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The Bihar police is looking for Food and Civil Supplies Minister Purnmasi Ram for abducting and brutally beating up a Communist Party of India, Marxist-Leninist, leader in west Champaran district, a police official said on Wednesday

The Bagha police have registered a FIR against Ram for the brutal assault on Dayanand Dwivedi.

Ram assaulted Dwivedi in public view on Monday.

Police sources said that Ram assaulted Dwivedi for filing a Public Interest Litigation in the Patna high court alleging a mammoth scam in the PDS red card scheme

CPI-ML leader Ranjit accused the police of arresting Dwivedi, and not Ram, who was 'allowed to go underground'.

Several CPI-ML leaders also said that Ram is 'instructing' the police to suppress the case

Last week another CPI-ML leader, Nanjee Ram, filed a Rs 61 billion PDS fraud case against the minister in Bagha court.

Dwivedi, at that time, had said he would be filing a special leave petition on the issue in the Supreme Court soon.
