Justice Hotoi Khetoho Sema, who hails from Nagaland, was on Tuesday sworn in as the 25th judge of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice of India S P Bharucha administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Sema in a simple ceremony at the Supreme Court.
Justice Sema (58) was the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court before being inducted into the apex court.
The ceremony was attended by other 24 judges, Solicitor-General Harish Salve and senior Supreme Court advocates.
Sema joined the Bar Council of Assam and Nagaland in 1971 and was appointed Nagaland's junior government advocate.
He quit the post in 1975 to begin private practice. In 1985, he was appointed assistant advocate general of Nagaland. In 1989, he was appointed a judge of the Guwahati High Court.
