Surveys predict massive
win for Musharraf

Ahead of the national referendum on April 30 to decide on the extension of Pervez Musharraf's term as president of Pakistan for another five years, pre-poll surveys have predicted a grand victory for the general.

A survey conducted recently by the Jang and The News group of publications said 67.50 per cent people would vote in favour of the general continuing at the helm.

The survey covered Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Quetta.

Another survey, conducted by Urdu daily Khabrain by telephone and e-mail said about 80 per cent people backed the referendum while 20 per cent were opposed to it.

Dubai-based private Pakistani television network ARY also conducted a survey and concluded that 74 per cent people favoured a continued presidential term for Musharraf.
