Schools in Delhi closed for two days in view of CNG crisis

The Delhi Government on Sunday announced closure of all schools in the capital on Monday and Tuesday in the wake of about 7,000 diesel buses going off the roads following a Supreme Court order imposing a fine if such vehicles plied.

The decision was taken by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at an emergency meeting in Delhi.

More than 1,000 Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses are at present being used by schools to transport students.

However, the central schools would not be closed, the commissioner of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghathan H M Cairae said. All Kendriya Vidyalayas would function as usual and there would be no closure or any holiday for them, he said.

Earlier, the chief minister had said that a contingency plan was being worked out and more numbers of RTVs (Rural Transport Vehicle) and other private mini-buses and vans might be requisitioned.

Dikshit had said 1,000 CNG buses would be added to the government-run DTC fleet of 2100.
