Curfew relaxed in Muzaffarpur

Curfew was on Friday relaxed for six hours in strife-torn Muzaffarpur in Bihar following improvement in the situation with security personnel staging a flag-march in the town, official sources said.

The curfew, clamped in the town on Wednesday following large-scale violence and police firing after the recovery of the mutilated body of an abducted child, was relaxed from 0900 to 1500 hours (IST), sources said.

A fact-finding team of the National Democratic Alliance, led by opposition leader in the Bihar assembly S K Modi visited the north Bihar town to assess the situation.

Modi called for the constitution of an all-party House committee to probe the circumstances leading to the violence and imposition of curfew in the town.

Eight persons lost their lives in a series of violent incidents on Wednesday following the abduction and killing of the child of a local bank official on Tuesday.

The state government has announced a judicial inquiry into the incidents.
